Post 2021 Skoda Octavia RS iV sketches revealed

Sketches of the new Skoda Octavia RS iV have been released ahead of the car's unveiling at the 2020 Geneva motor show in March. The Octavia RS iV will be the first set of vehicles from Skoda's RS sub-brand to feature a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. European buyers will be able to purchase the new Octavia RS iV in both hatch and wagon guises. The new plug-in hybrid powertrain is rated 180kW, which makes us think it has the same setup as the eighth-generation Golf GTE. In the GTE there's a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor, six-speed dual-clutch automated transmission, and a 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Range and performance figures for the Golf GTE have yet to be revealed. In addition to a sports-focussed plug-in hybrid powertrain, the RS iV will also feature a blacked out grille, a more aggressively styled front bumper, larger alloy wheels, and front and rear diffusers. There will also be a boot-lip spoiler for the hatch and a spoiler at the top of the wagon's rear windscreen. Although Skoda has yet to confirm it, we expect the RS iV to also feature a lower and stiffer suspension setup. Australia

As the Volkswagen Group insists Australia's sulphur-rich petrol isn't compatible with the company's petrol particulate filter-equipped models for mainstream buyers, it seems unlikely the RS iV will be making its way Down Under. Skoda has confirmed the Octavia will be here early in 2021, but hasn't confirmed which models will be making the trip. It has, however, confirmed there are no hybrid plans. With that said, the Skoda Superb Scout is coming to Australia with a PPF, and Audi has this week announced the RS3 will also be fitted with the emissions-improving technology. That said, the design for the Octavia RS iV is probably indicative of other Octavia RS models. MORE: Octavia news, reviews, comparisons and videos MORE: Everything Skoda
