I have to get another key for my 2010 Octavia RS as I purchased a Demo from a dealer. I believe it will cost about $500 from the dealer by the time it gets programmed. Is there a cheaper way of doing this???

yeah, more than likely...
Check out the 'How To's section on http://www.ozaudi.com, there is some info on there.... I don't think exactly the same system, but should be similar (I think you can use vagcom/vcds to program up the car as well)...
The solution so far. Providing you have a car key. On the side of the key under the blade is a bunch of codes - Namely 3T0 837 202, Hella 434MHz, ANATEL 2187-09-2856 etc.
I punched thse codes in to Google and came up with appolo.com. They have every key known to man. They had a brand new skoda key with transponder for $65. I took my key down to a lock smith and they cut me a new key blade for $42. They didnt have the Skoda program to configure the transponder. Hopefully I can get this done at the dealer for $100 next month when it goes in for a service.
Thanks for the info jnrdavo.
PS I'll get the 15,000 kms service at Skoda ($395) this time as I'll get the key programmed at the same time. The same service at Prestige and Performance at Coorparoo was $270. They have 2 x VW trained Mechanics.
